Correct answers to Trivia Game About Me
1. B. Catherine
I was named after the hospital where I was born, St. Catherine's Hospital in Quezon City. It has burned down many years ago. When I was born, Lola Natang Villamiel said to my mother, "You should name her Paula, after St. Paula who is honored on the baby's birthday according to the Church calendar." "That's an ugly name," my mother thought. "We're naming her Catherine, after the hospital," my mother said to my disappointed grandmother.
Mama nicknamed me Cathy at first. Those of you Tagalog-speaking Filipinos, know that Cathy is a homonym of the Tagalog word "kati," which means itchy. Mama's two sisters made fun of my name Cathy. They doted on me, saying "Cathy-Cathy (kati-kati), come here!" Mama decided to change my nickname to Irene. Coincidentally, Irene was also the name of the youngest daughter of the then President of the Philippines, Mr. Ferdinand Edralin Marcos.
